Welcome to TU/e Class of 2029

Here You will find all relevant info to starting at TU/e in 2026. We are a student collective helping freshers move and adapt to Eindhoven.

Housing

This really depends, but don't be fooled. It is important to understand that the later you search, the higher the demand, but so is the supply. It is of course recommended to find housing as early as possible, but if circumstances prevent you from doing that (e.g. still waiting for your ranking number in numerus fixus programs) it is worth to wait. However, it is recommended to already have a contract by July.

The most popular student housing options on campus are: Haven, Luna and Aurora.

Haven consists of 3 different parts: Castor, the 14-floor student housing complex building on the left, and closest to everything, Terra, the 2-story apartment buildings in the middle, and Pollux, the 14-floor student housing complex. These buildings contain both shared living spaces (between 4 or 6 people) and studios. You can apply through Vestide.

Luna is the building which is quite literally part of the university itself. If you live in Luna, you technically never will have to go outdoors, as it is quite literally connected to the university, and through tunnels, you can always stay indoors. Perfect for cold and rainy days in the winter!

Outside of the university, most popular student housing options are: Xior, VB

Xior has 2 different buildings in Eindhoven, which are both relatively close to campus. They are private studios.

VB is one big building, located a bit further away from campus, these are shared living spaces.

Vestide is a popular student housing company in Eindhoven. It has a priority system based on the time you are registered for (registration time). This means that students that made an account earlier have more priority for a room. However, they understand that students who come from abroad are in an unfavourable position, so if you live more than 1 hour away from Eindhoven, you will be given an extra year of registration time.

Yes, you read that right. If you live alone in a studio as a student, and you are above 18 years old, you are legally entitled to at least 295 Euros per month for housing allowance. You can find more information here: Applying for housing benefit

Well, then you can still come, you just won't have a house. You can always rent a room at the Social Hub (either as a Hotel stay or as a Student Stay, it will just be a little bit more expensive.) In addition, you can also choose to camp in a tent during the TU/e Intro Week (middle of August)

Academics at TU/e

Officially, there are 3 holiday seasons. Christmas Holidays, Summer Holidays, and Carnaval (Spring Break, usually in February or March).

Christmas Holidays usually last around 3 weeks. Summer Holidays last about 4-5 weeks. The Carnaval break lasts 1 week.

However, sometimes, depending on your exam schedule, you might finish your exams early. The exam week lasts for 2 weeks, where you will have on average 2-4 exams. Sometimes, you may finish your exams early, for example in the first week. After that, you are free for a week, as the rest of the students are doing their exams, and you have finished. Meanwhile you wait for the new quarter to start, you have a week break!

This is what first year students fear most. This basically means that you have to get 45/60 credits in your first year. In simple words, you have to pass 9/12 courses in your first year. In your first year, you take 3 courses per quartile, and you may at maximum fail 3 courses in total throughout the whole year.

If you fail to meet your BSA, you will not be allowed to continue studying in your program. This also means that you will not be able to do your course for a certain amount of years after failing it. Dropping out before the BSA deadline (usually around April) will allow you to redo the same course next year as a first year student. Depending on circumstances, you can ask for a BSA extension.
